The squad of Hjordis Eythorsdottir, Valerie Westheimer, Rozanne Pollack and Carol Simon outscored a powerful field to claim victory in the four-session Women’s Board-a-Match Teams. The foursome led throughout much of the two-session final. The winners posted a final tally of 35.90 to finish a half board ahead of the powerhouse squad of Lynn Deas, Beth Palmer, Kerri Sanborn, Irina Levitina, Randi Montin and Jill Meyers who scored 35.40. In third with 34.10 was the team of Petra Hamman, Joan Jackson, Mildred Breed, Shawn Quinn, Judi Radin and Sylvia Moss. The winners scored 18.5 out of 27 in the afternoon session and 16.5 out of 24 in the evening session. The back-to-back nearly-69% sessions lifted the team to the win. The members of the Eythorsdottir’s team have each previously won multiple NABC events. |

The squad captained by Mike Levine was down 16 IMPs going into the final quarter of the Senior Knock-outs against the team led by Hamish Bennett, but won the last set 44–16 to win the event. Levine, playing with teammates Zeke Jabbour, Randy Pettit, Allan Siebert, P.O. Sundelin and Arnie Fisher, defeated the Bennett squad by a final score of 153–141. Playing with Bennett were Gene Simpson, Billy Eisenberg, Jim Robison, Chris Larsen and Joe Kivel. The runners-up won the first quarter 51–32, but Levine was strong in the second set, pulling to within 2 IMPs. Bennett led 76–74 at the half. Bennett tacked on 14 more IMPs by the end of the third quarter to lead 125–109, but the Levine squad powered their way to victory in the last quarter, winning it by 28 IMPs to win the match by 12 IMPs. Members of both the winning team and the run-ners- up have multiple NABC and world titles, espe-cially in Senior contests. The Levine squad has won all of the major NABC Senior events several times. |
