Marjorie Bobbs in Center.
Marjorie Bobbs is my wife's biweekly Tuesday morning bridge partner. She is 88 years old and feisty is the only adjective that can be used to describe her. She drives a little green Volkswagon bug and everyone stays out of her way. Everyone in the club likes her and she plays at least 4 times a week and in all tournaments that are nearby.
Marjorie is Baton Rouge's oldest and newest life master. She began playing 5 or 6 years ago in my 49er game. She had never used a bid box or a duplicate board, but had played party bridge most of her life. Her favorite phrase was " Maurice, I am not getting any cards. I want my money back". She learned the basic conventions and soon moved on to the "big room" which is an open game.
Marjorie loves to play bridge and started playing in tounaments and winning colored points. By the time of the 2010 Biloxi Regional she needed over 10 gold points for her Life Master status. She arrived back in Baton Rouge short .55 gold points.
She called her partner, packed and went to the Houston Regional where she got her gold card.
Who dat say dat Life Master no longer has any meaning?
